Jose Mourinho Appointed As New Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach

Tottenham was quick to find a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino in just 10 hours.

Tottenham Hotspur has appointed Jose Mourinho as its new coach. The Spurs are having a poor run in the Premier League this season as they sit at 14th place on the League table.

Expectations were high for the North London side after Tottenham reached the finals of the Champions League last summer.

Mourinho appointed as Tottenham coach

Pochettino had an underwhelming start at North London this season. His departure has brought a rathershocking end after five seasons. The team wasted no time in finding a new coach however as they brought in former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to fill the void.

The Portuguese manager is familiar with the Premier League style after managing Chelsea on two occasions and a brief and drama-filled stint with Manchester United.  He has also won a domestic title in a record four different countries (Portugal, England, Italy, and Spain).

He is also one of only three managers to have won the UEFA Champions League twice with two different clubs, FC Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010. He is also a three-time Premier League Champion with local London rivals Chelsea and Spurs will hope to add some silverware to their cabinet with his appointment.

Mourinho has won 25 major titles in his career with his tactical prowess as well as a ruthless attacking philosophy.

Tottenham excited to have Mourinho

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy spoke on after Mourinho was confirmed as the new manager and admits to putting his faith in the 56-year-old,

“In Jose, we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honors at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room,” Levy said.

Mourinho signed a contract which will keep him in Tottenham Hotspur through 2023. He cited the players that he has a chance to manage as well as the passionate fans as one of the main reasons for his decision.

“I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me,” Mourinho said.
