Jorge Masvidal beats Nate Diaz via controversial stoppage to win B.M.F. title

Jorge Masvidal can call himself the “Baddest Mother[expletive]" in the planet. He may not have won it the way he wanted to though.

Masvidal and Nate Diaz went toe-to-toe in a thrilling back-and-forth bloody battle. Diaz suffered deep cuts above and below his right eye which prompted the fight to be stopped after the third round by a ringside doctor.

"Gambred" took the technical knockout win to take the main event of UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden and secure the custom-made BMF title belt.

The Madison Square Garden wasn't happy with the doctor’s decision. Though the fight itself wasn't disappointing, the ending wasn't what the people paid to see.

Masvidal offered Diaz an immediate rematch. “I told Nate right now … ‘Let’s run it right back,’” He said. “We’re going to run it back, New York. So don’t worry about it. It’s going to happen again,” Masvidal added.

Diaz was game for a rematch saying “I’m coming back for you mother[expletive]!”

What else we missed

US President Donald Trump was in attendance for the card. He became the first sitting (or former) president to attend a mixed martial arts event.

Trump has been friends with Zuffa era executives UFC president Dana White and the Fertita Brothers since 2001 when Trump’s Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City hosted UFC 30 and 31.

UFC Lightweight Kevin Lee opened the main card and made his presence felt again. Lee scored a brutal first-round knockout win over Gregor Gillespie.

“I needed to make [a statement] tonight,” Lee said after. “I wanted to put on a show.”

The heavyweight match between Derrick “The Beast” Lewis and Blagoy Ivanov went the distance in a close big-hitting heavyweight fight. Lewis took the victory via split decision.

Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson bounced back with a dominating performance over Vicente Luque. Thompson picked his Brazilian opponent apart with both his hands and feet.

“I kicked him in the head as hard as I could and he just kept coming,” Thompson said.

In the original main event which got bumped to co-main, England’s Darren Till beat Kelvin Gastelum via split decision in a middleweight affair.

Was the ending of UFC 244 disappointing? Did the doctor make the right move to call the fight off? Let's talk about the card in the comments below.
