Celtics' Tacko Fall passes on World Cup stint with Senegal

He does not hate his roots. He's just preparing for a pasture so greener, that he can give back to his motherland possibly ten times more.

Boston Celtics' center Tacko Fall has decided to forgo his World Cup stint in favor of training for the upcoming NBA season.

It can be remembered that the 7-foot-7 barely made an NBA roster. It just so happened the Celtics took a chance and he impressed in the Summer League.

Senegal needs him right now as one of their best basketball players but they have to understand that Fall is training to possibly give back more the next chance he gets.

Turning down the offer

Fall was initially named on Senegal's preliminary 24-man roster for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Questions started to come out after Fall's name being excluded from the nation's 16-man squad after the final lineup was announced Tuesday.

Cut from the roster? According to sources, Fall intended to focus on trying to make the Boston Celtics' 15-man NBA roster.

Apparently his performance in the 2019 Summer League was only a premature start. The real work is yet to come.

Sources added that Fall and Team Senegal came to a mutual agreement that he wouldn't suit up for them this coming World Cup.

What we might miss

Boston would have had themselves fully represented in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Newest Celtic Kemba Walker, together with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart are all part of the Team USA roster.

It would have been quality entertainment for the future teammates had Fall suited up for Team Senegal.

Fall's rationale is acceptable. He isn't officially part of Boston's Opening Night roster yet. He's still working on getting there.

If all plans fall into place, Senegal will have themselves a potentially dominant big man in 2023.
