Report: Rockets trade Christian Wood to Mavericks

Christian Wood

Luka Doncic will get some relief in Dallas knowing that Christian Wood will be a more reliable p
ick-and-roll partner.

The trade has been formalized but yet to be completed due to Dallas owing the New York Knicks a protected first-rounder in 2023.

Mavs acquire Christian Wood

The Dallas Mavericks acquired big man Christian Wood from the Houston Rockets. In return, the Mavs sent  Boban Marjanovic, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke and Marquese Chriss and the No. 26 overall pick to Houston.

Wood has been improving as time passes. He came off a season where he averaged 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He also shot 39 percent from 3-point range for a big man.

Houston on the other hand is hoping they can land a star with the players they acquired being light on salary cap space. The No. 26 pick they got from Dallas is the most interesting one of it all.

What can Christian Wood do for the Mavericks?

The 26-year-old Wood has slowly climbed up to relevance from undrafted G-League player to
a reliable starter. He's now going to get more attention now that he's on a playoff team with the Mavs.

Wood, a lanky 6-foot-10, 214 pound big man can play inside the paint despite his limitations. The Mavs bigs are almost the same size as Wood, which gives the team a more productive version of what they already have for their frontcourt.

Defenses will surely still be on Doncic but Wood's presence on the floor will give opposing teams hesitation on defense.

Mavs guard Jalen Brunson was a revelation during the playoffs but with a rumored exit, Wood offsets some of the void on the team's offensive workload.
